Fox Sparrow
Size - 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches long Habitat - Busy forests and thickets. Nesting - The nest is a deep solid cup of twig, bark strips, rootlets, and moss, concealed at the base of a thicket or up to 7 feet above the ground. Eggs - 3 to 5, pale blue or greenish, spotted with brown. Incubation 12 to 14 days, by the female. Food - Seeds, berries, and insects. |
Yellow Warbler (fe)
Size - 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches long. Habitat - Streamside woods and thickets, swampy thickets, and garden shrubbery. Nesting - The nest is a cup of silky plant down, grass and spider web, fastened to the crotch of a small sapling or shrub. Eggs - 3 to 6, pale bluish greenish, with brown and gray spots. Incubation 11 days, by female. Young leave the nest in 9 to 12 days after hatching. Food - Insects and spiders. |

Dark-eyed Junco
Size - 5 to 6 1/2 inches long. Habitat - Open woodlands and clearings. Nesting - The nest is a cup of twigs and grass on the ground. Eggs - 3 to 6, white or pale green, spotted with brown. Incubation 12 days, by female. Young leave the nest 12 to 13 days after hatching. Often 2 or 3 broods a season. Food - Seeds, insects, and berries. |
Purple Finch
Size - 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 inches long. Habitat - Woodlands, gardens with trees, and parks. Nesting - The nest is a cup of twigs and grass 6 to 50 feet above the ground. Eggs - 3 to 6, pale greenish, spotted with black and brown. Incubation 13 days, by female only. Young leave the nest about 14 days after hatching. Food - Seeds and fruits; insects during the summer. |
