Northern Flicker
Size - 10 to 14 inches long Habitat - Woodlands, deserts, and suburbs. Nesting - They nest is a cavity in a tree or cactus. Eggs - 3 to 14, white. Incubation about 12 days, by both parents. Young leave the nest 25 to 28 days after hatching. Food - Ants and other insects; fruits. |
Great Crested Flycatcher
Size - 8 to 9 inches long Habitat - Deciduous woodlands. Nesting - The nest is a mass of twigs and grass, and usually a snake skin, in a tree cavity 5 to 70' high. Eggs - 3 to 8, buff, blotched with brown and purple. Incubation 13 to 15 days. Young leave the nest 15 days after hatching. Food - Flying insects and berries. |

Gray Catbird
Size - 8 to 9 1/4 inches long. Habitat - Woodland thickets, garden shrubbery, and parks. Nesting - The nest is a cup of twigs, leaves, grass, and stems above the ground in dense shrubs, a tree, or tangled vines. Eggs - 2 to 6, unmarked greenish-blue. Incubation 13 days, by female. Young leave the nest 10 to 15 days after hatching. Sometimes two brood a season. Food - Insects, spiders, and berries. |
Eastern Bluebird
Size - 5 to 7 inches long. Habitat - Farmlands, orchards, and open woodlands. Nesting - The nest is a cup of grass in a woodpecker hole or birdhouse. Eggs - 3 to 7, pale blue or white. Incubation 13 to 16 days, by female only. Young leave the nest 15 to 20 days after hatching. Food - Insects, spiders, and berries. |
