Alaska

August 2013
I was watching the salmon lining up in a stream in Sitka, Alaska last month and the eagles were all around in the trees. I said to my sister, "Something has to happen here." What I wanted to see was an eagle swoop down and get one of these big fish.

A huge juvenile eagle was in a tree just across the steam from me. I was watching her and she was watching me. Suddenly the branch she was sitting on broke, fell into the water and she fell in with it. She recovered quickly, jumped up on a rock near me and shook out her feathers, pretending that nothing had happened. She looked embarrassed.
